To celebrate, the Scott family came together
on May 10-17 in Corolla, NC.
We rented a house at 1251 Atlantic Avenue,
on the ocean front at the north end of Corolla, NC.
The back of the house had three porches, a swimming pool, and a hot tub.
Behind the house, a stairway led up to a deck on top of the dunes,
and on the other side of the deck,
stairs led down to the beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
Ruth enjoyed her coffee every morning . . .
. . . and she sat at the head of the dinner table every evening.
Thanks to a rented beach wheelchair, she was able to enjoy the beach.

There was a birthday cake with many candles.
On the beach, we flew kites . . .
. . . saw shore birds . . .
. . . and watched dolphins swim offshore.
We saw ghost crabs in the sunshine . . .
. . . and at night (with flash).
In Currituck Heritage Park, we saw the Currituck Beach Lighthouse.

From the lighthouse observation deck, we could see Whalehead,
the Art Nouveau mansion (with a basement!) built in the 1920s
as a family duck-hunting lodge and winter "cottage".

On the nearby CAMA Sound Boardwalk, we saw families of Canada geese . . .
. . . with protective papa geese.
We also saw a nutria, a.k.a. "river rat" (an invasive species) . . .
. . . and a dog with a hat (an endearing species).
On another boardwalk trail, . . .
. . . the Currituck Banks National Estuarine Research Reserve Access Trail, . . .
. . . we saw a beautiful sunset.
A little later we watched the moon rise over the Atlantic.
We enjoyed the beach, and Ruth's birthday.
