Part 4 - Fort Pickins
On October 1, we drove all the way to the extreme west end of our island, Santa Rosa Island, to see Fort Pickins.
The self-guided tour there is the best we've seen at any fort.
Forts have lots of crannies . . .
. . . and oddities.
This reinforced gun was one of several outside the fort, near the shore.
We drove back along the Gulf shore.
We saw oil-cleanup workers along the more isolated beaches. But we heard that minimal oil was washed ashore in this area.
